Microlink Hair Extension
This is a hair extension method where small sections of your hair are pulled through a small bead or lock and clamped with a special tool. Most companies use copper cylinders lined with silicone to help protect your natural hair. The removal is easy and quick, and there is no heat or glue used with this method. Our hair extension stylists have specialized in the microlink system for over a decade. The technique is applied strand by strand and is ideal for fine or fragile hair.
Tape-In Hair Extensions
Tape-in hair extensions are one of the newest methods available. They are applied using either double- or single-sided polyurethane tape. With double-sided tape, the weft is applied after the backing has been removed from one side, then another weft is placed on the opposite side to “sandwich” the hair. This method adds a fair amount of volume and is quick to apply. It is not recommended for very oily or very thick hair, but it works especially well on fine hair.
Fusion Keratin
Like microlinks, fusion is done strand by strand. The pieces are bonded to your natural hair using a hot tool that fuses the keratin together. The hair can be washed and styled as usual, and it typically lasts 4 to 6 months with proper maintenance.

Strand by Strand
Microlink Hair Extensions
Small sections of your hair are pulled through a tiny bead and clamped with a special tool — applied strand by strand, completely free of glue and heat. Perfect for fine or fragile hair. We use silicon-lined rings and 100% human hair from 12 to 34 inches in three textures. Lasts 3–4 months.
Adhesive Method
Tape-In Hair Extensions
Ultra-thin polyurethane tape wefts are sandwiched around your natural hair — incredibly flat, quick to apply and completely undetectable. We also offer mini tape and skin weft strips. Available in balayage, ombre, piano color and natural roots. Works best on fine hair; not recommended for very oily or ultra-thick hair.
Keratin Bond
Fusion Keratin Extensions
Applied strand by strand using a hot tool that fuses hair with a keratin compound — the same protein found naturally in your hair. Far less damaging than regular glue. The hair can be washed and styled as usual. With proper maintenance, it lasts 4–6 months.
Temporary Method
Clip-In Hair Extensions
Going to a special event? Need to look fabulous without a long-term commitment? Clip-in extensions are the perfect option. We carry a vast range of colors — balayage, ombre, piano color and natural roots — in four different textures: Straight, Wavy, Loose Curls and Kinky Curls. Snap them in and out yourself, no salon visit required.
Weft Method
Micro Weft Hair Extensions
Weft strips are secured using silicon-lined micro-rings — no thread, no glue, no heat. Small sections of hair are gently pulled through the rings which clamp down to hold the weft in place. Can be adjusted every 4–6 weeks or fully redone every 3 months. Available in balayage, ombre and piano color in four textures: Straight, Wavy, Loose Curls and Kinky Curls.

FAQs
No, professional extensions will not damage your hair if they are installed correctly by a certified stylist and maintained properly at home. Damage only occurs from negligence, such as pulling on the bonds, using incorrect brushes, leaving them in past their expiration dates, or trying to remove permanent options like keratin bonds at home without proper salon solvents.
The primary differences lie in the application method, feel, and structural longevity:
- Tape-Ins: Flat polyurethane panels sandwich sections of your natural hair using a medical-grade adhesive tape. They lay very flat against the scalp and are quick to install but must be completely removed and repositioned regularly.
- Microlinks (I-Tips): Small, individual hair strands are attached to your natural hair using a tiny, lined metal bead or ring that is clamped down flat. This method uses zero heat or glue, allowing the hair to move with 360-degree flexibility.
- Fusion Keratin (K-Tips): Strand-by-strand extensions featuring a tiny keratin protein bond at the tip. A professional styling tool applies brief heat to melt and fuse the keratin bond around your natural hair strands. This creates the most seamless, customizable blend.
Because your natural hair grows roughly half an inch every month, regular appointments are mandatory to prevent tangling and matting at the root.
- Tape-ins & Microlinks: Require a professional “move-up” appointment every 6 to 8 weeks. The stylist will slide the beads back up to the root or replace the adhesive tape panels.
- Fusion Keratin (K-Tips): Do not have quick move-up appointments. They remain in the hair for 3 to 5 months, after which they must be fully chemically dissolved, removed safely, and replaced with a brand-new set of hair.
Yes, you can stay active, but extensions demand protective habits. When exercising or swimming, braid your hair or pull it back into a secure low ponytail to minimize tangling caused by friction and sweat.
- Water Exposure: Avoid exposing extension bonds to heavy chlorine or salt water, which strips away moisture and degrades adhesives.
- Washing: Always dry your roots and bonds promptly after working out; leaving them wet or soaked in sweat can cause tape adhesives to slip or microlinks to slide.
Absolutely. Modern extensions are highly inclusive and specialized. Top-tier brands supply 100% Remy human hair in a complete range of textures, from loose beach waves to tight, type 4 coils. Stylists often utilize sew-in beaded wefts or microlinks to seamlessly match textured patterns without requiring chemical relaxers.
The duration depends heavily on the method and whether you are getting a partial or full-head installation:
- Tape-ins: The fastest permanent option, taking only 30 to 60 minutes to apply.
- Microlinks & Wefts: Typically take between 1.5 to 3 hours.
- Fusion Keratin (K-Tips): Because they are installed meticulously strand-by-strand, expect to spend 3 to 5 hours in the salon chair.
Stylists rarely use just one single color box. To create a completely invisible, realistic look, professionals custom-blend 2 to 4 different shades—combining base tones, lowlights, and highlights—to mimic the natural dimensional depth of human hair. Many salons will order customized multi-tonal bundles or carefully dye the extensions to achieve a flawless match.
Fusion Keratin (K-Tips) and Microlinks are the most reliable choices for sweltering NYC summers. Tape-in extensions use an adhesive strip that can soften, become gummy, or prematurely slip out if your scalp becomes highly oily or sweaty in heavy humidity. Because K-Tips are fused using durable protein bonds and Microlinks use mechanical metal beads, they withstand sweat, humidity, and frequent washing much better.
Yes, a professional consultation is mandatory for any first-time permanent extension installation. Your stylist must physically evaluate your natural hair density, check your scalp health, choose the safest application method for your lifestyle, accurately match your color, and determine exactly how many hair bundles need to be ordered.

I am beyond happy my hair extensions! The quality is outstanding – virgin temple hair, soft, healthy, and luxurious. I was told I can reuse up to two years. The volume is full and glamorous without feeling heavy. They stay smooth, rarely tangle, and hold beauty even after styling. Thank you Shinetress! (Norie).
I took the time to leave this review because I am absolutely pleased with the results. The color is stunning – rich, multidimensional, and incredibly natural-looking. The hair is soft and bouncy. The technique is seamless, the connections are tiny (free of glue, heat, or adhesive). I did a ton of research and landed in the right place!
